My Mermaid Tail

here is my first post of one of my storys
it was a short story for school enjoy
It all started when I was watching T.V. in my house in Florida. A commercial came on for a concert for my one of my favorite singes, Taylor Swift. I just had to go. I went into the kitchen where my mom was cooking dinner. The answer she gave me when I asked her was probably the start of this whole thing. She said “Seafoam, if you really want to go to this concert you’ll have to pay for this ticket yourself.” I ran upstairs to count my money when I realized I spent most of it on a cool new outfit and a new CD. I only had thirty dollars. I quickly went on the internet to see how much money the tickets were. That’s when I relized that if I really wanted to go and get a good seat I’d need one hundred and eighty seven dollars. I was totally bummed. The next day at school everyone was talking about the concert. My best friend Alex, who was also a huge fan of Taylor Swift, got a front row seat from her grandparents for an early birthday present. “I’m sure they’ll be some way you could go. After all this is Taylor Swift we’re talking about.” “I hope your right. I’d do anything for these tickets.” When I got home I turned on the T.V. Suddenly a news bulletin came on. “We interrupt this program with an urgent message,” said the news reporter, “Mermaids have been spotted at a Sandy Atlantis beach. Anyone who is able to capture one of these fish creatures will be rewarded with one million dollars. Just call the number at the bottom of the screen. Here is a picture of a mermaid taken by the people who have spotted them.” There was a pause as a picture popped up of a teenage girl and boy sitting near the water. They looked pretty normal. The girl wore a pick bikini top and the boy had on a green and blue striped t-shirt. The only thing that was different was the fact that where their legs should there were greenish bluish tails. The strange thing was that the teenagers looked kind of familiar. Well at the girl did. I looked a little closer and suddenly I saw it. Her face was pretty much the same as my face. We both had greenish grayish eyes, blond hair, pale skin, and oval face. The weird thing was the tail. I felt like I saw it before. I was suddenly interrupted by the T.V.”Thank you and now back to the program.” And that’s how it all started, that’s how I realized I believed that mermaids really existed. I quickly wrote down the number that I saw on the bottom of the screen. If I found and captured a mermaid and claim that money not only will I have enough for the concert. I could get front row seats, a cute new outfit to wear, and maybe even backstage passes. I was determined and when I’m determined nothing could stop me. I was eating dinner with my mom when I decided to bring up my idea of a mermaid hunt. “So, mom,” I said “did you see the news today.” Her eyes suddenly opened wide. “Of course I did. Nothing interesting on. Lots of politics junk. Want some more sushi.” She said this all really fast. She picked up the tray of sushi. Sushi was my favorite food. My mom always cooked it on my dad’s yard sight to make me happier. I never knew my dad. He died when I was three. My mom said I looked just like him with my greenish grayish eyes and blond hair. “So you don’t think mermaids are interesting.” I said. My mom looked like she was panicking. “Mermaids”, she said, “What are you talking about. There are no such things as mermaids. You’ve been watching way too much T.V. or maybe the pressure of school is getting to you or maybe-“she was going on and on. I could tell she was nervous. Whenever she’s nervous she won’t stop talking. “Mom, what’s going on with you, you only act like this when you’re nervous. What’s wrong?” I asked “Nothing dear, nothing.” She put some more sushi on my plate. “So why did you bring up such a silly idea of mermaids.” “Well while I was watching T.V. today a bulletin came on about two mermaids, well one was a merman, being caught by the beach. They even had a clear photo and everything. They said that whoever could capture one to call the news station and they would win one million dollars. If I take up this hunt and I find a mermaid or a merman I could go to that concert I wanted to go to.” I think I made this idea very convincing."“No” said my mother “What why.” I was devastated I was this close to tickets to the concert. My mom looked at me and sighed. “I guess it’s time to tell you.” She said “Huh, tell me “About your father, you see your father wasn’t exactly human. This may seem hard to believe but your father is a merman. It all started when I was about 19 years old. I met your father on Sandy Atlantis beach. He was sitting by the rocks. I screamed when I saw him, you know the fact he had a tail and everything. Well anyway he looked at me and his tail morphed into legs and he ran at me and covered my mouth. “Please don’t tell anyone” he said. I looked into his eyes and he looked into mine and we fell in love. Two years later we were married and one year later we had you. He insisted in calling you Seafoam, which was his mother’s name. Why did you think you had such a weird name? I wanted to call you Kelly but your father would not hear of it.” She stopped. “Just because you don’t want me to do this does not mean you can make up stories about my dad. I know he wasn’t a merman.” I ran to my room crying. The sushi that she just put on my plate was left untouched. That night I packed a bag. It included all the candy I had stashed in my room, three changes of cloths, and a bathing suit. I opened my window and climbed down a vine. When I got to the ground I looked back. I felt a little bad for running away but then I remember the story my mother made up, turned around, and headed toward Sandy Atlantis beach. When I got there it was mourning. The shops by the beach were just opening up. My feet were a little tired so I sat on a bench to rest for a little bit. I thought about how I might catch a mermaid. Even if I saw one, I wondered how I could actually catch one. Then I saw it, in a fisherman shop, I saw a big fisherman’s net. It was big enough to catch a million fish, or should I say one big fish. I quickly went into the shop; it was called Waters Fishing Stuff. Inside there was a girl about my age at the counter, she had blond hair and had on dark sunglasses went up to her. “Hello,” she said, “how may I help you?” “Hi I would like one of those big fisher nets in the window.” I said. “You fish, aren’t you a little young?” She said “Says who.” I answered “Sorry, what your name, mines Seashell?” she said“Seafoam, why.”I answered“It’s just that, you look so familiar.” She took off her sunglasses and I found myself looking at, well, me. Her face looked pretty much identical to mine. “Holey fishnets,” she said, “you look just like me.” “Hey, maybe we’re related.” I said “Ya, I doubt were related.” She said “what’s your last name?” “Waters.” I answered “No way, that’s mine,” she leaned closer to me, “are you a mermaid too?” “No, what are you talk-” I suddenly remembered the talk I had with my mom. Could I really be half mermaid? “Well actually I think I might be half mermaid.” I said. “Oh you must be my Uncle Seaweed’s daughter. I heard he married a human and had a daughter.” She said. “So are you a mermaid.” I asked “Do I look human?” Suddenly her legs transformed into a long tail. “Hey you’re the girl from the TV.” I said“Oh right, the news, yep that’s me. You’re not going to turn me in for one million dollars? Are you?” she said jokingly “Well, actually that’s what I wanted the net, but the truth is I just find out I was part mermaid when I wanted to go on this mermaid hunt. I did not believe my mom at first but now I met you I guess I do, and I guess that means I won’t get my Taylor Swift concert tickets.” I said“Well I’m sorry I didn’t know about that.” She said. “Hey I know your dad gave me this for my third birthday.” She pulled out a box and opened it. Inside was a small pearl necklace. “There real pearls and doesn’t fit me anymore. So take it. I know an antic shop that you could sell it to.” “Hey, thanks, but its ok.” I said“No, seriously, take it, after all we are cousins.” She convinced me.“Thanks, well I got to get back to my mother. Nice meeting you.” I said“Nice meeting you too. Oh and by the way as a half mermaid you can control water and breathe under water.” She said“Cool” I said When I got home I found my mother pacing in the hallway. When she saw me her face looked relieved. “Where have you been?” she asked.“Mom, I’m sorry. I went out to go on that mermaid hunt and met a cousin Seashell, and well, I’m sorry I didn’t believe you.” I said. She embraced me in a hug.
